This video does a good job stating the parallels between two different jobs but similar guidelines to have and achieve. Stay focused, manage your time, and flexibility, all of which everyone has heard at one point or another in their lifetime. Whether it be for students or people at their jobs, every single person needs to have this. Staying focused is basically self explanatory, don't slack off, do the work while you are there. Manage your time, if you can't do this then you will feel stressed out because of missed deadlines and may ultimately wind up fired. Flexibility, I think is important because you never really know what could happen over the course of a work day so leaving time in your schedule to be flexible will allow for compensation if anything were to come up.

TITLE - An NYC Bike Messenger Turned SoulCycle Instructor On Managing - And Staying Calm - In Chaos
This is an interesting clip because Kym teaches us how important it is to stay calm and to be aware of your surroundings. Time management is the most important because we all have deadlines to meet in the business world. Staying focused on your goal may be hard to do, especially when you are trying to dodge cars and watch for traffic. The office setting can be just as chaotic when several people are demanding different things from you at the same time. Multi-tasking can be very effective but Kym advises that we take a deep breath and think about what we are going to do before we do it, then go for it!. I enjoyed watching this clip!

An NYC Bike Messenger Turned SoulCycle Instructor On Managing - And Staying Calm - In Chaos I liked this video. Something that I deal with often is "managed chaos" and it is really important to just stay calm and focused in those situations. I can't even imagine having to organize as many obstacles as she has to bicycling in NYC, but I do see how her experience with learning to control her situation directly relates to indoor workplaces.

The lady bike messenger makes a very valid point when avoiding chaos just like any other worker: stay focused, manage your time, and be flexible. This job of hers parallels anyone else's with the same amount of stress and decision making that is required of anyone else (sometimes just more apparent). In order to be successful, one must: be aware of all surroundings; never leave work unfinished, despite the time; and being able to change on the fly.

TITLE - An NYC Bike Messenger Turned SoulCycle Instructor On Managing - And Staying Calm - In Chaos
I enjoyed this video because I had no clue how much work went into being a bike messenger. The picture of a bike messenger I have in my head is a high school kid riding a routines bike route everyday, but that is clearly not the case! As mentioned in the video, the bike messengers are able to manage their time properly and get all of their tasks accomplished because they stay calm through out the chaos. They make split second decisions and go with the flow once it is made. Your mind can't be cluttered, you must be focused at the task at hand.

Being overwhelmed about what is happening around you can make you lose focus on the task at hand. For example, if I panic at the time for an exam, my mind will go blank and suddenly I can't remember what I spent so much time learning. Relaxing, taking deep breaths, and other things like this can help your mind get back to where it needs to be for you to focus, stay on task, and get the job done.

I really enjoyed this video. what the speaker said can apply to what a manager or even an employee needs to do at work. Staying calm while at work is key. This is because as long as you stay calm you can get what needs to be done, done. You will also have a better quality of work. Managing your time and being flexible is also important for you as a manager and as for an employee as well.

Pretty simple and straightforward advice here. By staying focused, managing your time, and being flexible you can successfully navigate your way through a chaotic or hectic situation.

Even though the video is short, there is so much to take from it. I especially like the first and second rule of managing chaos, which is pretty relatable to any profession or field. Staying focused and managing time is important as some responsibilities and obligations are more important than others. Rule one spills over into rule two because the moment you lose focus is the moment work will build, thus making time harder to manage. Having chaos around you can be overwhelming, making following the rules difficult. You have to force yourself to remain calm...the moment you surrender your mental strength is the moment you will be vulnerable to a given situation. Successful people know how to control themselves and be tough, despite how frustrating or difficult the odds may be.

I like her tips on how to manage chaos, but the main thing I got from this video is that I DO NOT want to be a bike messenger. It seems entirely too chaotic for me and I consider myself somewhat good at managing chaos. I feel more stressed just watching this video.

TITLE- An NYC Messenger Turned SoulCycle Instructor On Managing- And Staying Calm- In Chaos
This is a really cool video. Being an NYC bike messenger seems about as stressful and chaotic as it can get. I like how this video simplifies the process and steps needed to overcome these challenges. The message is simple but practical, manager’s come in contact with stresses and obstacles that can quickly engulf their mental capacity and result in bad decisions. Simplifying this issue and taking proper steps to overcome it can drastically improve the decision making of what may seem to be very complicated problems.

I think it is very difficult to be a bike messenger in New York City, because New York City has nothing but chaos. She gives you three techniques to help deal with the stress. Paying close attention to taxis, pedestrains, and cars is extremely crucial, because you don't want to get run over by them. Also, you need to keep your patience, because you don't want to waste your time dealing with the monsters that drive in New York City. I think this stress is similar to stress experienced in the corporate world.

I would imagine her job as a bike messenger was a little scary. Dealing with all those elements can be difficult if you are not experiences and your not focused. Just like she said in the video, managing stress, staying alert, getting the task done are all aspects of being successful not just is bike messaging but also business. What I took away form this video is to always be aware of whats going on in work and always remember to stay calm and know your surroundings.

People in the office have the same tasks as the bike messenger. You cant leave work unfinished. You also must be experienced, as well as being able to make quick decisions. Being flexible with all things around you is a great example. Where people in the workplace have to be flexible to all idea, the bike messenger must be flexible to all the taxis and people around them.

After watching the video, I was able to relate her 3 steps to my current server job. As a server, you need to stay focused on each tables needs. You need to be able to realize what that table is looking for, whether they are ready to order, need something, or want the check. Managing your time is very important. Food needs to be served hot, so it cannot sit in the window for long. Multitasking is a great time saver, I usually am boxing a table's food while printing their check. Being flexible is also important in serving because you never know what might come up. You have to be able to change your course of action on the fly for various reasons like food not being ready or customers changing orders. These steps are applicable in all working environments.
