Leaders are suppose to be helpful to others, not only demanding of others. Serving others makes you a compassionate leader. People need to have some sense of direction and leaders provide the help of getting there and achieving goals of the day for the company. This video was pretty boring and I think managers, educators, and others in leadership positions should maintain this element of leadership.

I thought this video was really good. It is important for managers to realize that they shouldn't only focus on delegating tasks to their employees. They should make sure they stay involved in the business so they can help the organization reach its goals.

I would share this link with friends and colleagues. Thank you Professor! I feel I can relate with this video because it really speaks volume. I can relate in the line of work I am in. When it comes to industrial sales I have to qualify the customer and make the customer's experience very unique. I have to give him/her the WOW factor! I have to serve my customer's in a way that brings them back and also that I inform them with much knowledge and information. I try and build a report with my customer base in order for them to realize that my company has what they need but also treats their customer's with respect and courtesy.

This video has a great point, leaders often believe that they should just tell others what to do but a leader should also make a point to make it easier and do things themselves when they can. By doing this it can also make a leader appreciate what their employees do on a every day basis and can make the relationship between coworkers stronger. Asking yourself what you can do as a leader to help in the next 24 hours is a great question for any leader to ask themselves, but I even think this is important for everyone to ask themselves to help their friends, family, significant other or even a stranger.

Tom strikes again. By this point we've seen him so many times that he is almost like family to me, and I hope he accepts my friend request.
I wish more managers had the philosophy that Tom discussed in this video. Far too many times at my job my boss stands by and does nothing to help us remove obstacles and it really makes me resent him. I feel like productivity would improve across the board if my boss was more proactive and looked out for his employees more often.

TITLE- Leadership: Servant Leadership
In my opinion this is, somewhat, an innate ability of managers. Tom’s idea of servant leadership is important but not applicable in real world scenarios. Managers are often under significant amounts of pressure from many aspects of their job. The idea of making such minute changes on a regular basis, rather than spur of the moment, seems a bit unrealistic and counterproductive.

Leaders need to give other coworkers service. They need to help them do whatever needs to be done and also answer the employees' questions. This should be very helpful to your employees. No one likes working with bosses who don't pick up as the employees do. I have one manager I work with in retail. She never helps recover the store at all, but all the other managers do. It is really frustrating.

I have to say "I got nothing" I am not sure what he truly means for my employees, as we are a super small company. If one could consider the simplest of things, it was a reminder for PPE to be on while working on a 5 minute trouble shooting matter with some equipment. Even though the probability of issues is small, its also when one gets a little more careless because of that margin of error. And I will be darned if he didn't need that PPE (personal protection equipment). Something as simple as safety goggles and proper head covering made a difference for him and my business.

This video has a good point. Leadership is more than leading people, it's also about serving your customers. Just because you are in power, it doesn't mean that you are a leader. Being a leader means that you are trying your best to get or do the best for your customers and employees.

Being promoted into power, does not only mean that you get to dictate jobs to other people. Yes, that is part of it, but you also have to make sure everyone is doing their job correctly and effeciently.

This video is simple, but successfully delivers a strong message. When several people think of leadership, they think of leading by issuing commands. This way of thinking is narrow minded and one dimensional. A good leader is participatory and engages his/her workers. A good leader is someone who can provide services for workers, just as well as the workers can provide services for him/her. By executing services for workers they feel closer to their bosses. This intimacy empowers workers to do better as they feel cared about. It also sets a standard for workers to "live up to" when performing jobs. When expectations are defined, less tends to go wrong.

I like the idea of removing hurdles for others to accomplish their tasks. At one place of employment, I had a boss that got my co-worker and I a parking pass so we could park near the office and at different places for running errands. This removed several hurdles and saved a lot of time. Even though it is just a little thing, it helped us accomplish our tasks a lot quicker than we would have otherwise. Leaders need to give their teams and employees the keys for success. If they are stuck because of red tape issues or lack of tools, the tasks take longer than they should and focus is directed away from the min goal.

Being a servant leader is a great way to get out there and interact with your employees. It shows more willingness to work and get the task at hand done. It allows more room for respect coming from the employees. Being there for your employees as a leader is the job of a leader.

Some people are born to be leaders, while some truly have to work at being a leader. However, one thing that we can all do effectively is serve. Whether we are lower level employees helping out a colleague, or even a high up executive working with his team to develop corporate strategies, it is critical that we think beyond our own needs and focus also on the needs of others, their struggles, obstacles, and tasks. Your power as a leader is not to coerce your employees into doing everything that you say, but rather, to empower your employees to strive for excellence, be the best that they can be, and overcome hardships and trials that they may be facing in their lives. Being a leader is about promoting growth, and without service, that growth can never reach its fullest potential. We find some of our greatest fulfillments whenever we serve others. If we are feeling fulfilled and empowered, it is critical that we help others begin feeling the same way, in hopes that we can all strive forward together.

I think this is a good way to live your life everyday. Ask your self this question every morning "What am I going to do today to be of service to others." And I think you can go far in life with that. It can benefit you in your personal life and in your work life. When you do good things in life, good things come out of your life. And when good things come out of your life, that is when you reach true happiness.
