Students, Please view and comment on this link of the day - yes, for your education, but also for the points, of course! Watch the video below: TITLE - Four Ways to Think Like an InnovatorThen, post a comment in reply to this discussion thread. Again, what to post? Here are some ideas: + What did you take away from the video? + How does the video relate in some way to your past experience (work, as a consumer, family, school, etc.)? + How might you use these ideas in your own career? Good luck! David

"The great American philosopher, Mike Tyson..." made me laugh. Like seriously, how do you say that with a straight face? Anyway, I liked the video. The man was smiling and pleasant-seeming. He gave pretty generic advice, though. I would like for one of these links to actually be original and not just a different way of explaining the same ten concepts I've been learning for the past three years. Nothing edgy or unexpected. "Think outside the box"--incredibly cliche. "Embrace failure"--for the thousandth time. "Work hard"-- yeah, ok. And then the fourth, to be honest, I have no clue what he's talking about but he said "Squelch."

Four Ways to Think Like an Innovator
After watching this video, I did not take away anything new. The four ways to think like an innovator were all very similar. The first way, "keep and external focus" and the last way, "Resist the pull of the core," are very similar in my opinion. Both are saying don't run to your comfort zone. All in all, this video was good, but I would not pass it along to others.

This video did not really share anything new to me. All of the ways to think like an innovator were are similar to me. Seemed as though he was saying the same thing again and again- just in a different wording.

Four Ways to Think Like an Innovator This video was a little repetitive of other things learned throughout school and other videos. Not much new to take away.

Four Ways to Think Like an Innovator
This advice was pretty generic and the guy gave me the creeps. I did like how he quoted Mike Tyson though. I will use this advice in my future, but I did't learn it from this video. This video was just refurbished advice with several cliches in it.

Become an innovator. There are four ways to become an innovator. The best is the mike Tyson approach is that every one has a plan until there is a fist in their face. Stay away from the core adopt your Edison approach. You should have your own mine and try your best.

TITLE- Four Ways to Think Like an Innovator
I really like this video especially the external focus and resisting the pull of the core. I have worked for many business owners who started their business on a great idea but began to loose sight of their external environment and instead became narrow minded. They kept a narrow focus on what they were good at and forgot to improve on what they were not. This is a great strategy to help businesses avoid becoming stagnant and keep up with evolving markets.

I would definitely would share this link with friends and colleagues. Thank you Professor! I think that is video is full of lots of informative business information. As a salesperson you need to learn from your mistakes and turn those into potential opportunities. Being an innovator and thinking out of the box is what the new generation of businesses want. The consumer wants the business to be a problem solver so that the company is keeping the customer in mind. When a company does business in this way the business benefits everytime. At the industrial company I currently work for that is really our motto...we want to qualify the customer and make sure if they have any questions or concerns that they are addressed in order to continue having a win-win relationship

I didn't learn anything new from this video. I did like how he says you should think about what the customers need. Anything that you think would make life easier is something that people would want to buy.

Out of the four ways to think like an innovator, I tend to gravitate towards the first two (keep an external focus and learn from your mistakes). Despite the video's redundant advice, solid information can still be found. The first two ways, stated earlier, challenge companies to actively think in regards to problem solving. For example, the speaker states, “Instead of thinking what products your company has to sell, think about what problems your customers are trying to solve.” External thinking is not only important for problem solving, but it’s also an important and powerful comparison tool. By looking at where your company stands in comparison to where other similar companies stand, you can start to realize the strengths and flaws of your business. The second way, learn from your mistakes, allows you to strengthen and tweak flaws once they have been identified.

Even though this video was informative, I did not learn anything new that I did not learn in other classes. The innovation process is similar to what I have already learned.

I think innovators are extremely interesting people. The video talked about four ways to become an innovator. Innovators have to think about their customers a lot as far as the problems that they are dealing with. You want these customers to be your focus in trying to become more innovative. Learning from mistakes is a key thing because you don't want to keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again. You want to learn and try not to repeat them again.
