Students, Please view and comment on this link of the day - yes, for your education, but also for the points, of course! Watch the video below: TITLE - RSA Animate - The Truth About DishonestyThen, post a comment in reply to this discussion thread. Again, what to post? Here are some ideas: + What did you take away from the video? + How does the video relate in some way to your past experience (work, as a consumer, family, school, etc.)? + How might you use these ideas in your own career? Good luck! David

RSA Animate - The Truth About Dishonesty
After watching this video, I looked at myself and tried to decided if I fell into the category of little cheaters. And I did! I have used pencils and paper from my job and done some of the other smaller things that he mentioned we rationalize as being okay to do. Being ethical and honest can be hard when you feel like you deserve it or you rationalize the situation to be fair, even though it is only favoring you. For example, if you are at a restaurant and the waiter does not charge you for drinks and you do not make him aware of his mistake, you will probably rationalize it as good luck or him deserving a higher tip. Few people will rationalize that mistake as an employee stealing from the company in order to receive a bigger tip from the customer.

RSA Animate - The Truth About Dishonesty
I'm guilty of dishonesty as I think we all are. Even if we think, the little things we do are not harmful they are. Being ethical and honest can be hard when you feel like you deserve it or you rationalize the situation to be fair, even though it is only favoring you. It makes sense to be dishonest when you're in the moment of heat, but it's never okay.

I thought it was very interesting to see that total amount of little thefts. That's a lot of money! And I definitely know that I have participated in this behavior as well. This video will make me think twice about it next time though.

Dishonestly can be done blatantly and on accident. I don't think a person accidentally taking a pen from their job makes them dishonest. Sometimes these are just honest mistakes. I do, however, think that if a person purposefully acts out of malice and is dishonest then this behavior is inexcusable. People will always try to rationalize their actions to make themselves feel better about the choices they make but when it comes down to it, dishonesty is reprehensible.

The truth about being dishonest. We all tell little white lies and we don't see the value in certain items. At work you have a ten minute break but you take twenty minutes and the next person does the same and continues throughout the staff. How much has the company lost in a week from an extra ten minutes. As adults we lose the value in some items like time and the pencil example.

I definitely would share this video with friends and colleagues. Thank you Professor! This video has lots of facts and figures about people who are dishonest at the workplace. In today's job interviews there is a big demand for employees to do the right thing and be the right organizational fit. This means lots of companies are making potential employees take personality tests to make sure people are ethical and moral. Companies cannot be 100% secure from dishonest people but can try to be as close as possible. Making sure you do the right thing is very important. When someone's integrity is tarnished it is very hard to reestablish it. Being an employee of good character is important and that is something that follows you wherever you go.

TITLE- RSA Animate- The Truth About Dishonesty
I really liked this video! I think our society today is becoming far more dishonest and it directly correlates with our disconnect that comes from technology. Technology disconnects us from the world around us and allows us to rationalize it because we don’t see whom we are affecting. Dishonesty is a slippery slope because the individual and others can support rationalizing it. If a person steals and gets away with it they begin to think its okay. If others do the same this belief is reinforced further. People must realize and be motivated to reject dishonesty if there is any hope of actual avoiding it.

Rationalization is a way for people to justify their end means and reasons. People with strong rationalization skills are capable of performing with greater confidence without getting stuck on the "small" things. While this sounds great in theory, too strong of rationalization skills can be bad at times. For example, workers performing poorly, with big egos and strong rationalization skills, will be less likely to correct their errors. This is why incentives are so important in business to lessen mistakes.
The video states and I agree, "We all have the capacity to be quite bad under the right circumstances." Incentives provide safeguards to control the right circumstances by making both company and individual benefits align. What benefits an individual should benefit the company, so employees won't think to act out. Despite saying this, some people will still milk situations. Incentives just lessen the amount of milkers.

I really enjoyed watching this video. I am not going to lie and say that I have never lied because I have. However, I try to be an honest person. These days, it is more common for people to be dishonest than honest in most situations. Little white lies have to be covered up with even bigger lies and it's important for us to keep that in mind.

You can either be honest or dishonest. In our society people can be big cheaters, but there are not a lot of people who do this. We also have little cheaters, but many people do this. Little cheaters are people who have no clue when they are cheating.

Cheating is very common in the work place. It was interesting to find out that there were many little cheaters which added up to a lot of money taken from a company. As long as we rationalize our actions and cheat just a little we can benefit from cheating and still think of ourselves as honest people. At work it mostly starts with someone stealing a pencil or paper which could lead to stealing money because people think it is not a big deal. If someone steals from the petty cash they feel they are a thief, but if they only steal a pencil they feel differently. The best thing to do is to be honest and not steal the pencil at work.

I feel like we’re all a little dishonest but not always in the way that it seems. I know that I’ve borrowed a pencil from someone in class, forgot to return it, and kept using the pencil even if I had multiple opportunities to return it. Growing up Catholic, I can definitely relate to confession making you feel clean and not wanting to cheat for a while. The best thing to do is to try and be the best person you can be in life and in businesses so that we can move forward.

There will always be dishonest people in this world. Some will admit it and they know. Others don't believe they are dishonest. The joke about the father and his kid, was a great example of how small things can make you feel bad. If you put them into a different context. This was one of my favorite videos, I will be sharing with others.
