Navigating Major Career Transitions
This video was a little slow for me in the beginning, but I agree with what the speaker was saying about transitions. The company I am working for is going through a major company transition right now. The transition involves looking at skill sets people have that can be applied to an already or existing or new role, and who may not be best for the position. The senior staff and executives of the company I work for definitely went through the process of continuous transition and what organizational changes needed to be made to benefit the entire company. I think it is important for managers to always stay in transition and maintain a competitive advantage (like mentioned in the video) by helping people with transitions.

Navigating Major Career Transitions
I liked the idea of associating the organization with an immune system. By bringing in someone who isn't a right fit, the organization may attack the new person and drive them out. This has a large influence on both the employee groups.

I would definitely share this with friends and colleagues. Thank you Professor! This is a very important video that is super important in the progression of a career path. Everyone including myself is always wondering how they are doing after the 90 day probation period. Also, when an employee is due for a promotion or review there are emotions of anxiety and nervousness. It is important that when transitioning positions that you don't offend anyone and that you keep grounded. Especially if you are getting promoted to a management position. If you will be over an employee you are friends with or had same position at one point it is very important to communicate that the roles will be changing. When a promotion does occur it is vital that you transition into the position and take on more responsibility. There is a reason why you are getting paid more.

TITLE- Navigating Major Career Transitions
I liked this video. Transitioning between careers or positions within a business has been difficult for me and I am sure is difficult for others as well. As a leader, I gain fulfillment through mastering my craft or essentially being good at what I am doing. I like his ability to understand and relate with how transitions affect this desire. As a manager I tend to forget this fact when dealing with employees. Businesses need to keep this in mind and continue to work on making their business welcoming to employees making similar transitions.

Transitioning is scary because it requires people to adapt, more often than not, to new sets of challenges. For employees who like or understand their jobs well, promotions or repositioning can create anxiety. This is because, in most cases, people are being taken away from something they value, in exchange for an unknown value. However, transitioning can be just as much of an opportunity as it is a cost. In times of change, managers value employees who are flexible. As a worker, if you possess these abilities then transitioning can be a way of moving up the corporate "ladder". Employees who healthily deal with transitioning represent a human capital asset.

I am the first to admit I don't like change. Change is sometimes good but it takes people time to get used to it. changes in a company such as moving people into different departments can cause a lot of stress on the employees. But manager know which employees are transitioning well into their new department and they will be likely to get a promotion first.

Transitions are one of the hardest things in our life. At this age, we are going through many transitions. Trnasitions to college, then moving back home, maybe away again, and away again for grad school. In this time we are constantly going through change. It is important to realize that the change is only beginning. In jobs, you are pretty much told where you will be. You dont get to necesarilly pick and choose what youre working on. It is important to have an open mind that is willing to accept change. If you are close minded to transitions, you will have a hard time being successful.

Transitions are very difficult. It brings up a lot of insecurities and worries when going through them. As he said, one of your strengths may not be needed in a new promotion, but one of your weaknesses might be called upon more. Transitioning can either be for the best or not work out because you cannot adapt to them. Transitions are a great way to see what you are really capable of and learn a new set of skills.

I thought this video was extremely interesting because it talked about the things that go wrong with relocating. I had no idea about any of the issues because I have never moved before. The video stated that people go through some struggle. They face challenges with moving because they lose their family and friends. They also lose everything and have to start over.

There are other transitions that people go through when it comes to their career besides promotions or joining new companies. These could be downsizing or restructuring. You have to look at the personal adaptations and organization adaptations. When it comes to a promotion, you have to reinvent yourself. What has made you successful in one role may not make you successful in another. This is a great video explaining what the challenges could be when getting a promotion or having to relocate for a position and how to overcome those challenges.

I like the question of what are you good at that you need to do less? It kind of makes my mind think in a different way. Its more of a positive way of saying what should you not be doing. Also when you are going through changes you do need to establish some familiarity to have good balance in your organization.

I find it interesting that there is a good and bad side of receiving a promotion. The good side is that the individual has worked extremely hard to be recognized and moved up the career ladder. In the process of getting the promotion, they learned everything needed for that particular role and how to be successful in it. The bad news is that now the individual is challenged with a new way of inventing themselves. With the promotion comes more responsibilities, new ways of doing a job, and probably more stress.
