Here are some ideas: + What did you take away from the video? + How does the video relate in some way to your past experience (work, as a consumer, family, school, etc.)? + How might you use these ideas in your own career? EXCELLENCE: It Can Happen Anywhere
It's surprising to me that a regional company made number 1 on this list, but I can see why. The speaker makes an excellent point. Excellence and people practice are definitely key attributes of any business that, if done properly, can take you to the top. I firmly believe that regardless of what type of product you sell or the price of that product, when your people do what's right for the customers, and do it with a great attitude, you can retain and grow your business. Being in a service industry can be difficult, which anyone who works in one will tell you, but I believe this can give you an advantage. This is because of how many more opportunities you have to work directly with your customers. These are valuable moments to represent your company and show customers what you stand for - and to give them great service.

Excellence: It can happen anywhere After watching this video, I was surprised to see a grocery store being listed as one of the top companies to work for. The speaker made good points (a little long to get to his point), but the main thing I took away from the video was that with any business you enter in, it's why you make out of it. I'm happy a service industry company made the top spot for the best place to work for. This will hopefully show people who are in that industry that there are positives and room for growth.

There has to be people excellence. In working for any company excellence in people is necessary. Great companies survive because of great employees. When we take a level of appreciation they work harder. A example is that I worked for a company who appreciate workers tremendously ,but when the economy changed the focused on their business. They lost a great amount of appreciation for the employees and now the company is not doing well. Your employees set the tone for your business.

I wish he would have gone into why or how Wegman's made the top of the list but I can probably Google it later. A business is always a reflection of its employees. Employees are the face of the business and should be treated that way by the operators of the company. Often the employees are put behind the customers, which is a total mistake because while that one customer may be unhappy and leave and never come back, if you do not back your employee, that can possibly ruin the service given by that employee, and the word of mouth that the employee puts out into the world could end up negative.

This was an eye-opener. I never knew that a simple grocery story could be such a great place to work. I suppose excellence really can come from anywhere. If a local chain can do it, anyone can.

I think it's great that a grocery store that started in NY can make a list like that. It shows that excellence in any form of business is noticed and highly regarded. It just goes to show that getting back to the basics and fundamentals in the service industry can lead to great achievement.

TITLE- Excellence: It Can Happen Anywhere
I think it is awesome that a small grocery store like that received that accolade. It shows that the nomination was thought out and truly depicted the essence of the title. In many cases titles like this are given to businesses for the wrong reasons. This is a good example of how businesses of all sizes can focus on their basic principles and fundamental values while being highly enjoyable.

I would definitely share this video with friends and colleagues. Thank you Professor! Tom Peters really captivated me with this video. It really spoke of how you should treat the consumer from the #1 grocer and best retailer to work for in the country. It really should not matter if you work for a corporation or for a small business. How you treat people is the one thing that can thrive your business. The consumer will always remember how you treat them everytime! In my job working for an industrial sales company in New Orleans the owner really makes an issue to take care of the customer. The owner also makes his presence known in the industrial tool showroom to educate his employees on how to better inform and serve the customer. it really makes me do my job in a more efficient manner but also excites me about going to work each day!

I learned something new in this video. I had no clue that they have a rated list of companies to work for. It is also interesting that the same companies keep popping up on the list. I think it is intriguing that it is rare for new businesses to show up on that list and that the last new business was people oriented. So, if you weren't nice to you customers you wouldn't show up on the list.

Excellence can happen anywhere. If you want to succeed in life or business, excellence is essential. You don't go somewhere and want mediocre service or products, you want the best for your buck. When I dine out, I want excellent service and food. I'm paying for it, and I want good quality. I realize I will not get the every time but I will defiantly remember when I do and when I don't and that will change how I feel about the certain restaurant that I went to or waiter that I had.

I would have never guessed a regional grocer would top the best companies to work for list. It is a lesson to people like me who automatically vote for those well-known companies who are popular and make tons of profit. I’m glad the criteria that companies being judged by does not require a company has to be certain size or make certain amount of revenue to be able to compete.

In a marketing class last semester, my teacher, at the time, made me write an essay on the topic of workers being a part of the brand they are trying to sell. I still have my report and while its long its highly relatable. The following is an excerpt from my paper and represents what I believe,"To sum up, branding is the responsibility of every functional area, no matter how big or small, of a corporate organization. For example, if your brand idea is meant to communicate ease of use as a differentiator, both the manufacturing and advertising department must understand this. If one of them fails to do so then the overall branding will not be the same, resulting in a weaker brand! The workers become a part of the brand they are trying to promote in a sense because every employee’s actions are relevant to the brand experience."

I think its great that a grocery store came in at one of the top companies to work for. It is interesting that Genentech was mentioned as a top company, because they are a company I have just been talking about in this past week. Excellence is important in every company. If the employees are not portraying excellence, you will have unhappy customers. At the same time, if the top managers are not showing excellence, there will be unhappy employees which roots down to the bottom. If everyone practices excellence in all that they do, the business is more likely to succeed.
