Picking the right partner is one of the most important decisions you will make when starting a business. The article talks about asking around to previous co-workers of a potential partner to find out the pros and cons. Picking a bad partner could sink your business before it gets started. You have to be able to work together and be able to trust each other. Working many small projects together before hand could be a big key in deciding if that person would work as a partner. You would find out how that person is and works, and whether or not you could work together.

INSTANT MBA: "If You And Your Partner Agree On Everything, One Of You Is Redundant."
I think that the title of this article is so powerful and direct. The word partner, to me, goes hand in hand with equal. I used to think that successful business partnership would come from the partners being two peas in a pod. They would have to think the same way, act the same way, and chase after the same goals. Granted, I still think the latter is important, but now I realize just how helpful a little disagreement can be for a business. One partner sees what the other cannot, thus pushing each other to new boundaries. Moreover, the article talks about the important precautionary steps before choosing a business partner. References is a method widely used, but a less commonly used method is also brought up - trial periods. Ideally, trial periods would be implemented more because they are a simple way to foreshadow the future with a potential business partner.

INSTANT MBA: 'If You And Your Partner Agree On Everything, One Of You Is Redundant'
This article is particularly important because it talks about the importance of knowing who you work with. It is highly recommended that you make you sure you have someone who will offer more options with whatever you are working on. Complimentary skills are very important, however different ideas can come together to form the best decision between partners. I work at a retail store and really don't think that we take these skills into consideration when appointing either a supervisor or an assistant store manager. When or if I have to get a partner in my line of work, I will definitely be looking for someone that has a similar set of skills and really good references to find out how good of a worker my partner will be.

I don't actually agree with the first part of this article. I want my partner (whether in business or in my current job as law enforcement) to be an extension of my own will and desires. In my opinion, my partner and I should know and understand our goals and each other so we can manage risk better and seize opportunity without a lengthy and perhaps wasteful debate process. I do think the rest of the article is very good, getting to know one's partner before bringing them on board with a big project is critical.

INSTANT MBA: 'If You And Your Partner Agree On Everything, One Of You Is Redundant'
I strongly agree with the statement that “if you and your partner agree on everything, one of you is redundant.” When choosing a partner for work, it is important to find someone that will compliment your style and help push you to new areas to realize your full growth potential. It is also very important to find someone that has different views, so that you are considering all possible approaches as your move forward. If you look for a partner that constantly agrees with you, then you will never be challenged and may potentially miss out on a lot of opportunities.

INSTANT MBA: 'If You And Your Partner Agree On Everything, One Of You Is Redundant'
I agree and disagree with this article. I believe that a partnership needs to agree on the main aspects of a business or else why get into a relationship that starts with a cracked foundation. I do agree that each person should bring their own specialty/idea to the company. It's always best when each person has their main focus in the company aspects, for instance the financing and the sales/marketing. Partnerships can definitely be risky if you aren't aware of whom your partner is and I strongly agree with the articles suggestion on test driving the partnership by working on small projects. If you don't mix well on a small project, you'll know exactly what to expect on a major project.

"Instant MBA: 'If you and your partner agree on everything, one of you is redundant.'
This statement really resonates with me for a couple of reasons. Firstly, a partner could potentially be the most important part of managing your business. Two heads is better than one is an old saying, and a very true one. Whatever ideas you can come up with, theoretically, an extra person can double intellectual output. AS this is the most important role of a business partner, this article makes a lot of sense. If everything you are saying, your partner agrees with, then you might as well be talking to yourself in a mirror for all the good its doing you and your business. Secondly, a challenged mind is a working mind. If you are forced to really think through everything you say and convince your partner that an idea is a good one, then the idea gets a much more thorough looking over and is much more likely to be a good and usable idea.

INSTANT MBA: 'If You And Your Partner Agree On Everything, One Of You Is Redundant'
This article talks about familiarizing yourself with someone before choosing them as a partner. I completely agree with this article because it seems in today's world a lot of people want a job, but not necessarily to work. Having the right work partner can make your work easier as well as their own if you work well together. The job can get done faster and much more efficiently when done right. In my opinion, good work ethics can be a real deal maker when choosing a partner. References go a long way in helping to make the right decision for bringing someone on board. Anyone can lie and say they have great work ethics, but someone who has worked with them before can vouch for whether or not the person is telling the truth or just trying to look good to get their foot in the door.

Alt Link 1: INSTANT MBA: Every Business Should Embrace Change
The thing is, no one likes change at first, but given enough time people will come to accept the change. Change in the work place often involves switching form some old analog way of doing things to some new, more efficient, less costly form of technology. So do not fear change, and as a manager be willing to make changes if something is not working, but for big changes give workers enough time to become acclimated to what's going on.

This article brings up a very important factor in dealing with other colleagues in any type of business who seems right on the outside, but do not prove to perform as they should in the long run. Nobody wants to get paired with someone who doesn't do a good job or is just inadequate for a specific job in general. I personally have encountered this situation in my current workplace. When a person who is not qualified is put into a position that they cannot handle, the outcome can tend to lean on the negative side. Having a partner who does not just agree with everything you say can be very important. It is wise to be partnered with someone who provides strengths for your weaknesses and vise versa. That way you build on each other’s flaws for a greater outcome all together. In business, this can be the competitive advantage your company has over another.

INSTANT MBA: 'If You And Your Partner Agree On Everything, One Of You Is Redundant'
I agree with this article on every level. I have not yet experienced much in the field of work partners, but I have been in several bands where partnership plays a key role in the success of the band. In the writing process, when I hit a mental block, my friends could help me push through it with their creative ideas. Being that we differed in genres of music that we listened, we were never short on new experimental touches to each song. I have found that having a complimentary partner has been the most beneficial in maintaining creativity.

Instant MBA: If you and your partner agree on everything then one of you is redundant.
This article is a good read for someone thinking about partnering up and/or looking for someone to partner up with in business. It discusses all aspects of the little things that seem to matter. Of course, some of us may think that finding someone with the same strengths and weaknesses is a plus, but in reality it isn’t. What many fail to understand is that in the business world, you need someone who compliments you and your business. No, not saying “Oh my, you have a successful business”, but someone who picks up your slack when you aren’t able to. Someone who isn’t afraid to take risks, and bold enough to say NO! The biggest mistake that anyone can make is having a “yes” partner (someone who always agree with his partner). Knowing about your partners past is very important because you have a lot at stake and it could easily be taken away from you in a blink of an eye if you aren’t very peculiar about who you have as a business partner.

Dr. Wyld- I reposted this under my new id- It was not showing earlier...
INSTANT MBA: Every Business Should Embrace Change
I agree that change is what allows businesses to survive in this volitile word of competition. Changes allow your company to become more valuable to customers. It will keep customers coming back and attract new ones. The needs of customers change thru life and if businesses change this makes them attractive to them. Changes usually come with some resistance but worth the reward. We are trying to move our medical office into the electronic medical records that in government mandated. We are having problems trying to find a company that meets our needs within our budget. Hopefully, soon we can make the change to electronic medical records, this will make our company more efficient and more attractive to companies.

This article talks about the importance of checking references of someone that you want to work with prior to working with them. By doing this you can ensure that you and your partner will be compatible work partners as well as ensure that this person works well with others. This is a good practice for professionals to put into use. This allows you to not waist time hiring someone that will not work well as part of a team. This also ensures that you are bringing on a partner that has good qualities that can benefit your business.
