Students, Please view and comment on this link of the day - yes, for your education, but also for the points, of course! Watch the video below: TITLE - Pierre Ferrari: Judgment Versus Experience, What Matters More? Then, post a comment in reply to this discussion thread. Again, what to post? Here are some ideas: + What did you take away from the video? + How does the video relate in some way to your past experience (work, as a consumer, family, school, etc.)? + How might you use these ideas in your own career? Good luck! David

I think it would be better to have both! But I see where it would be more important to be able to make a snap decision than to have to find someone with experience. Make the decision, put 100% into it. If it doesn't work out, quickly figure out why, then move on and take that experience with you.

I believe both judgment and experience are important, since they both lead to better reasoning. Judgment allows you to face challenges you haven't faced before, but experience enables you to find similarities and patterns in different situations that can lead to a better solution.

Judgment and experience are both important when used appropriately. Judgment is when a person questions things and really listens to the solutions so they can decided if that's what they want to do. A person's experience is their own personal journey that they can learn from and make decisions based on the good outcomes or bad outcomes they've had themselves.

TITLE- Pierre Ferrari: Judgement Versus Experience, What Matters More?
It is impossible to say whether experience or judgment is more important, each is equally important. Experiences with good outcomes I remember and those with bad outcomes I learn from. As a manager I have to be able to learn from my experiences and my judgment will improve as I move forward.

I personally believe that I do learn from my mistakes. I believe that there are others who don't though. I agree with the statement that using good judgment is far more important. I believe judgment is extremely important, because judgment allows you to control what you say or do to others.

If I had to choose what is more important judgement or experience. I would have to pick experience because you know personally what is the right or wrong choice. When companies are hiring people to work for them they don't ask for their judgement. They ask about your experience first so they know you are capable of completing your tasks.

I would definitely share this link with friends and colleagues. Thank you Professor! I do not know if I agree with the notion that Experience is less important than judgement. I feel through judgement and asking question you definitely get to some answers you might have never gotten to. I feel though through experience and trial and errors that people do learn and make changes to become better people and incorporate that in the business world. Even though some people do not learn that does not mean that the majority don't gain knowledge and prosper from their mistakes. I have definitely made mistakes in my lifetime and am a better person for learning the right way to do things.

I think both should be in effect. You need the judgment to be able to make the right decision, but you also should have the experience to know if something will succeed or fail. But sometimes you need the experience call that is quick on the spot, because you could have tried and succeeded or failed in whatever it is by the time you make a judgement call.

Judgment or experience... if you have no experience, then you better have good judgment. Or surround your self with people who have experience, ask questions, gather information and make a well informed decision. Learn from mistakes and successes. I liked the play on words at the end of this clip. When you start off on a new venture all you have is your gut and judgment calls based on "information" provided to you. As time goes on obviously you have experience and judgment calls to pull from to help you make well informed decisions.

I disagree that judgment is more important than experience. Yes people may have a hard time learning from their experiences because of denial, but they had bad experiences because they went against their better judgment. which suggests that experiences are far more valuable since they are the mistakes we have already made. Some people actually do learn from their experiences. They can recognize when a mistake has been made and us the knowledge to their advantage. But of course its just my opinion.

I think it is important to have both. While someone may have had a bad experience with a former employee, that does not necessarily mean that the person's work ethic is bad. It's best to have both because when you have judgement and experience, you can better decide what is best for the company. I, also, believe that some people do learn from their mistakes. Learning from mistakes help you to grow as an individual.

You must have experience and use judgement equally. So I kind of disagree with is decision on choosing one over the other. With my work I have become successful with the experience of doing peoples hair and managing. Although along the way i have had to use my best judgement in order to make the best decision for an employee or when doing someones hair I have had to decide what color to use to achieve the best result. People make mistakes sometimes so with experience your least likely to make the wrong choice.

Personally, I believe that judgement (good or bad) leads to experience. Its through the judgement of your decisions that give you this invaluable experience in business. Everyone is going to make mistakes, but it is up to us to learn from those mistakes and have better judgement next time. This will lead to more positive experience and lead your company in the right direction.
