After watching this video clip with Gareth Jones on " What Do People Want From Their Leaders", I flashed back to my high school drama class. We were a community in the class but the person/leader that gained the lead roles was the person who had the most authenticity, significant, and excitement. I never would have thought that a high school class would one day relate to teaching me how to become a better leader. Also, Mr. Jones was right when he mentioned about asking the wrong questions. In order to be a great leader their focus should always be what the people want out of their leader.

Trust is a big problem in the world today, but I haven’t lost faith. I agree with his definition of leadership. A great leader should excite people. A great leader should make you want to follow them. Everyone wants to be a part of something, a “community” as the speaker said. I think the most important quality of all is authenticity. I want to be a part of a team with a leader I can trust, I can talk to, and I can relay on.

I really enjoyed this video because I will be going out in the workforce soon, and will have a new leader. In order to be an exceptional leader, one must be both disciplinary and understanding. Employees are not going to respect a boss who lets them get away with anything, and employees aren't going to like a boss who they feel like is unapproachable. Leaders should organize the efforts of the group, but not be afraid to push their sleeves up and help.

The best talk I have heard in a long time. It depicts the many aspects of what skills it takes to become a successful leader. Having a few followers is not enough, but learning how to instruct more than one group is where real leadership comes into play. Commitment and dedication mixed with excitement and spontaneity is how to lead and manage your employees.

I think it's critical for leaders to make their employees feel important. The feeling of importance draws in excitement and a greater work ethic. Just a simple task can make an employee feel important, or a simple compliment. It's discouraging for employees to work in an environment that only dishes out negative criticism. Also, when leaders bring an attitude of excitement to the table the attitude of the organization will follow.

People have trust issues when it comes to many aspects of life. One of the most important ones is that people don't trust businesses. They don't trust the leaders. They want to feel a sense of community, authenticity, significance, and excitement from the businesses that they support. I agree with this statement. I think that it is hard to trust businesses in hard times, and to trust that they are actually giving you the products and services that you are paying them for. I think that the most important thing to me is the feeling of authenticity from businesses. I want to feel like the business cares about its customers, as well as making its profit.

I agree with the man in the video about the four qualities people look for in a leader: community, authenticity, excitement, and significance. I also think that these four qualities just scratch the surface of what a great leader needs to be successful. One quality I would have said if they interviewed me was vision. I believe a great leader has a vision of where and what he wants his followers to be lead too. Without vision there is no point in even being the leader of this group. Back to the main four qualities mentioned I think excitement and authenticity are the big ones. You want to be lead by someone who is excited by the vision you are trying to accomplish as a group, but also you want someone who is authentic and not fake.

This video was informational and displayed forward thinking. I haven’t ever thought to ask the followers what they want. I believe he pinpointed the four things perfectly. My company CEO does a marvelous job in leading us. She is selfless, personable, appreciative, and reminds us constantly that with out us she would not have any success. I have not yet to meet a person who disagrees that she is a gracious and respectable leader.

Effective leadership excites people to perform. Being a trustworthy leader gives your followers faith in you; that you can lead them to the ultimate goal. Leadership is authentic. I like how the used this term to describe effective leadership because I don't think its mentioned enough when talking about how to be an effective leader.

This video mentions how lawyers and business leaders are not trusted, which is very relevant in today’s world. Trust is extremely important to have in your leaders. If you cannot trust them, you will not listen to them or follow them. Being a leader means taking on responsibility. When we find cases of fraudulent behavior in accounting it not only is frustrating but disappointing because there was a trust broken. The video also mentions having community. This is important because business leaders are also responsible for having corporate and social responsibility. An example of one company that shows this is McDonald’s with their Ronald McDonald Charities. It is important for companies to give back and create environmentally friendly products if they can. Doing these things ends up being a good decision in the long run because people like supporting companies that do good things for the community.

While good leadership is hard to have, it is not impossible. A greater concern, the video undermines, is the inability for discovering good leadership talent. I refuse to believe that our nation lacks talent by instead choosing to believe in other inefficiencies. For example, If a company has trouble finding talent, they should assess their human resources department. Businesses should spend increased efforts in the pursuit of finding talent through effective and efficient filtration, recruitment, and training techniques. On a governmental level, more programs and policies should be created to find local talent and entrepreneurs. The speaker states the problem is due to bad communication or cultural fit from the leadership side. However, aren't workers, specializing in promotion, just as much to blame as a leader is for company shortcomings? Corporate laziness and a lack of innovation might be the true culprits behind this dilemma.

This is a video that managers/leaders should review periodically to remind them of the importance of the four skills that were discussed. A lot of times management is so focused on meeting goals and productivity that they sometimes forget that their employees need to feel part of the team and that their contribution is appreciated. By leaders being authentic in their management of their team, having their employees feel part of a community and stating the significance of the job objective by demonstrating excitement when discussing it with the employees will definitely contribute to a better ran department.

I did not enjoy this video although it seemed to have some decent advice relating to what people look for from their leaders. I can honestly say I don't agree totally with the list therein. The qualities I look for in a leader include assertiveness, being able to clearly state what he/she expects from me. Dedication is one other trait that is way up there on my list. Being able to see someone who is leading have dedication towards a goal or objective really inspires me to take on the goals and objectives that are laid out for me.

This video discusses the importance of leaders to behave as such and to do so effectively, meaning that leaders of a business or organization should at all times conduct things in the appropriate manner. I think this is important leaders are the back bone of anything even a group project the leader must make there presence known and known in the way that they desire to to run the business meaning if the leader runs the business poorly the business will fail think Enron. I believe this video relates perfectly to the corporate world, and can help some leaders be more effective and efficient in what they do.

In my experience having a community type feeling within the workplace is crucial to the successful performance of the company. If the employees feel that they are part of something, they will take pride in their work and want to help one another. Authentic leaders are important because it lets the employees know that they care and understand them. Appreciation is extremely important for motivating employees because people crave the sense of accomplishment. Employees understand that they are paid to complete their job, but giving them that extra recognition makes them feel good about themselves which adds positive energy to the company. Lastly, employees are only going to be excited if their leader is excited. They look up to their leader and generally follow their attitude.
