My boss preaches the contents of this video. When we perform interviews, we are to look and find others who encourage us to be better than who we currently are. This can be hard, but in the end, it can be rewarding. When you find the type of people you are looking for, everything else just falls together.

Leaders are both born and made. Some people are born with natural leadership qualities. These people are usually more outgoing, and can take charge in difficult situations. However, many people are made into leaders. I agree with the video when it said that people become leaders by surrounding themselves with the right people. If someone can surround themselves with people who are uplifting, motivating, and good role models, then they can become a successful leader.

The "question are leaders born or made?" can be a tough one to answer. I believe some people are born with certain qualities that make them more of a leader than others who maybe quite and timid. On the other hand, though, I believe someone can be made into a leader one hundred percent. Like the man in the video says surrounding yourself around people who have the qualities of leader can mold you into a leader that you want to be. For someone who isn't "born" a leader it maybe a more difficult task than someone who is, but it is possible with hard work.

I think some people are born with qualities that can potentially make a great leader. But there are many skills that are helpful when being a leader that one cannot just simply have. They have to learn and therefore they are being made and molded into leaders. It's also about the choices that you make that can affect you as a person and your ability to lead. Surrounding yourself with great leaders with help.

There might be a few leaders were born to be leaders in the world, but I believe majority of them were made. The reasons why some people become leaders, some become followers, it has everything to do with the family cultural environment they grow up in, type of education they received, parents’ and friends ‘influence, people who they socialize with, etc.

Surrounding yourself with people to exemplify yourself after can definitely help with developing leadership skills. There are some natural qualities in people that make them more of a leader, such as being outgoing, thinking outside the box, and not scared to give an opinion. This does not mean, however, that being a leader cannot be learned. There are some qualities that are better developed from learning in an environment. Decision making, for example, is a quality that can be learned and improved over time. Also, interacting with people is another important leadership skill that can be learned from one’s surroundings. Financial fraud is most of the time caused by having surroundings that support fraud, or look the other way. This is why it is so important for companies to create environments where good behavior is rewarded and respected. This will help with raising future leaders that have the same outlook.

I am struggling to deliver a counter argument with valid points due to the qualities of this speech. It is punctual, to the point, and one hundred percent correct (in my mind). The question he poses about leadership and what shapes us, whether it is our biology or our environment, can be taken out of any vanilla psychology book. People love to argue the topic...I honestly think its a waste of time! If something is met with such fierce argumentation then shouldn't both sides be respected due to the inability to prove each other wrong? This is my preferred angle, as you begin to sell yourself short by pessimistically thinking you are locked into some certain predefined fate. The things which define us are what we allow to define us and affect us. Its all a state of mind.

When reading the title I actually answered the question to myself. The answer that I came up with was that they are born. My reasoning for that is people just have certain innate characteristics that make them a leader. My opinion soon changed after watching this video. It makes sense that surrounding yourself with people that push you to be a leader makes that happen. I enjoyed the video and it will make me think twice about the company I keep.

I only partially agree with this video. Yes, people can be born with certain characteristics of a leader but that does not mean people are born to be leaders. Most people are born with the characteristics to drive a car, but does that mean that people are born to drive? Having the characteristics mean nothing if you can’t develop the skill to becoming a leader.

I think there are people who are born with leadership attributes but to be a good leader there are skills that must be learned. It is a true statement that the people you associate with will influence your behavior and attitude. Which is why I like to associate with people who are working towards a positive goal in life.

I believe that leaders are made. Just because you are born with the outside qualities of a leader, doesn't mean you will become one. It is the nature v. nurture argument all over again. I believe that everyone is born with some kind of leadership quality in them and everyone at all points of their life harbor those traits, it all depends on how you use them. He is correct about surrounding yourself with people who are successful. To be a good leader you need accountability.

While some are born as leaders naturally, it is still possible to be made into a leader. One key aspect is to surround yourself around people who make you better. This could mean people who hold you accountable, look up to you, or require your help. When you find yourself in a situation that people depend on you, you turn into that leader they need. Also, it’s good to surround yourself with other leaders so you can continue to learn and grow. Your actions and decisions also define your as a leader.

I had to re-watch this clip a few times to try and establish if he was making a joke or sly innuendo slam... "when they are born tall white male and old?" Once getting past my agitation of the opening line I could hear the rest of the message. Leaders are both born and made.
Not every made leader is a great leader. But then some people are thrust into various situations where due to bad leadership, or lacking leadership, they must fill a void and be a leader. For a "leader" to be made he thinks it is to surround yourself with good "leaders" people etc. Good leaders seem to be made. Great leaders are born with certain characteristics and traits and like a great athlete trains to be the best they too train to be the best.

The video was definitely to short, but I somewhat got his point. I think leadership skill can be picked up on by the company you keep. More so I agree with leadership is born and taught. Myself for example I was born with naturally leadership skills. More so in my classes I've learned a lot of things that has help me to become more of an exceptional leader. Another quick point leaders must be open to learning new things to become a better leader.

I believe that leaders are made, not born. Anyone can be a leader, but it just depends on at what age they begin their training/conditioning. I never thought that I would want to be a business major, especially someone in Management, but over the years I have changed my mind. Things that I have experienced, and have been exposed to, helped me make the decision to want to be a leader/manager.
