Students, Please view and comment on this link of the day - yes, for your education, but also for the points, of course! Watch the video below: TITLE - Why Women Make Better Business Leaders
Then, post a comment in reply to this discussion thread. Again, what to post? Here are some ideas: - What did you take away from the video?
- How does the video relate in some way to your past experience (work, as a consumer, family, school, etc.)?
- How might you use these ideas in your own career?
Good luck! David

I enjoyed this video and would like to learn more statistics about women in the workplace. I do sometimes feel we are fighting a bit of a stereotype daily and woman who become leaders are exceptional and should definitely be looked up to. I currently work in an office full of women and know that there are definitely times where that impacts the situations there. Emotions aren't always something that should be included in the workplace, but I can see how they should be considered sometimes. I can't help but feel that neither sex is better or worse than the other and should be more based on the work and leadership of the individuals.

I don't understand why more women aren't in top management. I do believe there is a slight transition being made and as time goes on, women are making their way to top management positions. But I don't really see what the big deal is about women having major role in big companies. This video shows that a woman does just as good as a man does, sometimes even better. Women have more stereotypes to break and more hurdles to jump than men do which I believe is unfair. A person shouldn't be chosen for a job based on their sex, they should be chosen based on their qualifications and whether or not they can do the job correctly.

I like this video because it states that women are better leaders than men. Women out perform men at emotional intelligence, communication, and initiative. It is wonderful news that women excel over men in these areas. As a woman about to enter the workforce, I am very encouraged by this.

I will definitely pass this link to my friends and colleagues. Thank you professor. I feel this video had some exceptional statistics on how vital it is to be diversified in the workplace. Women bring a great element to the business world. I actually took a position as a territory manager in Mississippi a few years ago. My district manager was a women and the abundance of know I gained was unbelievable. Unfortunately the truth is that men are not great communicators as are women. Women are excelling in the business world and making great strides. Eventhough women are successful I always take good advice from anyone who is willing to share it. Having an open mind is key to being successful.

Women communicate better then their male counterparts in the work force and probably in life. I have had three women for bosses in my past jobs and they were great. There truly isn't a difference in men or women running a business I believe. It's all about the person who's in charge and if they can handle the pressure that comes with it.

Well, as I guy, I would naturally tend to disagree with this video. When it really comes down to the foundation of the matter, a true leader needs to be able to listen, empathize, give, and help maintain focus within the company's growth. These attributes can be accomplished by a man, just as easily as they can be accomplished by a woman. Often, men will get the idea that they are "superior" in the workplace, ultimately hindering their leadership capabilities. On the flip side, women can sometimes feel as though they are under appreciated and will work extra hard at being their absolute best and can sometimes run over another employee. I think there is a fair balance that can be obtained in leadership, regardless of the gender. Steve Jobs helped Apple computers become one of the most profitable and well known companies in the world. As a leader, if you show a genuine interest in your employees and their growth, listen to the requests of your customers, and focus on the growth of your people as well as your company as a whole, you will ultimately be a successful leader.

Women are definitely the minority in the workplace. Like the video said, out of all the fortune 500 companies, only 12 women are in charge. I liked learning the statistics of women in the workplace in this video. However, I feel like anyone can really learn these skills to be successful as a leader. Wwerner commented above that he thought it didn't matter what gender was the better leader as long as they could handle the job well. I completely agree with that statement. Maybe women are better at these skills naturally but I don’t doubt a man’s ability to learn them too.

This video is an eye-opener as well. Women are a vital piece of our workforce today and it shocked me to see how vastly underrepresented they are at the executive level of companies. We are, as a nation, getting better at fighting the stereotype and have come a long way for equality in the workplace. With that being said, I don't think we have come nearly far enough. Women provide a unique and invaluable perspective on key issues within an organization, and they cannot be ignored.

This video was correct in all its aspects. Women are better communicators in that they can sense emotions better than men. But I also think thats because of how men are raised compared to women. When men are childeren and they hurt themselves they are told to man up and get over it, so men learn to repress emotions. Because of that we cannot sense others emotions as well as women and that can sometimes be essential in a business related transaction. Women seem to have more patience when it comes to things, and sometimes it is better to wait for a transaction than to just jump into it, because a better deal can be made with patience.

Judging by the votes, it seems like a lot of people disagree with the video. But I loved it! Not just because I'm a woman either! I was just told earlier (in 30 seconds) that males make better leaders. So I enjoyed hearing this take on it. One, I'm an artist so I found the video very cute and entertaining. Two, she provided us with facts instead of opinions. Watch it again! Do your own research! The facts are there! My two bosses at work are male and female. My male boss is just absolutely terrible at his job. He is concerned only with money. He is an emotional robot and most of the customers (and employees) can't stand him. Since he has been at my job, business has significantly gone down. Now, the woman on the other hand cares so much about our customers, who all love her. She wants to make sure our customers receive the best of everything. So, in that respect, I think women can be better leaders. We are indeed, very intuitive. I wouldn't say I'm a better communicator, but on a personal level I feel that I am.

On this video, the quote she used from the former Ebay CEO is exactly what I said in an earlier post about leadership. A good leader is good listener. Woman have incredible minds and when companies utilize the natural skills of a woman, they notice the similarities women have with natural born leaders. Another reason women should be leaders is the market share for the consumers. Female consumers are at a higher percentage than male consumers in our economies market. All of my leaders/supervisors have been women with the exception of one male manager I had a long time ago. The one word I can use to describe him is.. lazy. I have never had a lazy female supervisor.

TITLE- Why Women Make Better Business Leaders
I agree with a lot of what this video states. At both my current job and previous jobs I have had numerous superior managers who were female. Many were amazing communicators and had great interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, etc. I have also had numerous who were the exact opposite, lacking in many of these characteristics. I have also had male superiors who were fantastic at all of these things. I think in many cases it depends on the industry, job requirements, and the individual. I will say that I have never had a female manager who lacked in their work ethic. Females always seem to have great drive and determination in achieving their goal. Whether they are in fact better for all management positions, I’m not so sure.

I think this video is a way of thinking. Facts are facts and obviously they have the facts to back it up. I don't think that women are better or men are better leaders in the work place. I think anyone can be a great leader and lead a company to performing well if they maintain the necessary skills. I think that this information can be useful when these big companies decide to hire people and put them in a high level job. I have read a lot of book on the difference of men and women and how they view relationships and work well together. I do have to say a lot of it did speak of women having the superior communications skills is saying what they need to in few words, also having the initiative to have different ideas, and also having more emotion then men. Listening is a very important skill in order to be a good leader. In my work place my mother owns the business. I do have to say that many people have worked for her and they always say that your mom is the most understanding person, I can talk to her without being criticized, although business means business.
