The author makes a good point when stating that if you go in front of others with a fully baked idea, they're going to be quick to tell you what's wrong with it. On the other hand, if you allow them to take some ownership in creating the idea, they are much more likely to embrace it and support both you and the idea. I've learned this in both management and teaching. My employees were much more likely to perform to my expectations if I let them contribute to the way the store was run and feel as if they had some say so in the proficiency and profits. In the same manner, my students are much more likely to follow the class rules if they have some say so in creating them and the reward/consequence system they entail. It's simply human nature for one to believe in an idea and work towards achieving the goal if we feel we've had some say so in creating it.
