Although it may be convenient to ask someone who is successful and professional for advice; it is important to make sure that you ask someone who is in the same area of expertise you are pursuing. This way you will be gaining significant knowledge on a field that is similar to one that you will be going into. While you may gain some significant knowledge from someone else it would definitely be more advantageous to learn from someone who has hands on knowledge and is able to discuss with you the things that may or may not come up in your professional career.

INSTANT MBA: 'Don't Take Advice From Golfers If You Want To Play Baseball'
I think it is very important to take advice from people who are in your career field and see how they have become successful. Since my career field is Human Resources, I wouldn't want to ask someone who is a marine biologist on how to be successful in HR. Those are two completely different fields. You need to seek advice from someone who has battled some of the same problems you will encounter in your career and see what they have learned from them.

INSTANT MBA: 'Don't Take Advice From Golfers If You Want To Play Baseball'
You will be totally wrong if you think that all advises that you get from people will be helpful to you. Advises from the right people will only turn out fruitful. Thus, it is crucial to find out the right people to go for and seek advice with. Every game has its own set of rules and same applies to real life and profession that we follow.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Take Advice From Golfers If You Want To Play Baseball
It makes perfect sense to talk to someone who works in your field when trying to start a business because they can give you first hand knowledge. It is okay to get inspirational words from people who have successfully started businesses and it is even helpful to ask them what they specifically did to get them to the point they are at today, but when you want to get the inside scoop and inner workings of a particular business then it just makes sense to find someone who works in that field to give you a complete play-by-play.

INSTANT MBA: 'Don't Take Advice From Golfers If You Want To Play Baseball'
In my opinion, this article is common sense. If you are going to ask for someone's advice, you have to ask the right person. Just because someone has excelled in one field does not mean he or she can help you with the problems you are facing in a different field. Everybody has their niche of expertise, and you must find that person with that has experienced the same king of obstacles that you need to overcome. Use the experiences of others to help you succeed, but you must know what experiences to learn from and which ones will not help you.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Take Advice From Golfers If You Want To Play Baseball
It's true, if you want to be a golfer you hang out with golfers not baseball players. This applies to the business world in that one has to get advice from people who have been around and failed in the world of business. Business people have to hang around the people that they inspiring to be like. In order to achieve being what you want to be you have to look at those people and not others. This could help one in the future by talking to the people that have learned from their mistakes and get advice from the right people.

INSTANT MBA: 'Don't Take Advice From Golfers If You Want To Play Baseball'
It's a great idea to find people who are in the field you want to pursue and follow their lead. Taking advice that is relatable to your own desired path is extremely beneficial in that you can directly apply it to achieve your own success. That's not to say that you can't learn from those in other careers, but it will be much more helpful and realistic to stick in your own career choice when looking for ways to succeed. Asking someone in a position you covet to shadow them or interview them about their success is one proactive way to learn about how to get where they are.

Instant MBA: Don’t Take Advice from Golfers If You Want to Play Baseball
As MBAs students are always getting advice from all kinds of people in all different fields and industries. Although getting well-rounded advice can be good this article reminds students and business men and women that they should be taking advice from the people that are successful in the field they are interested in. For instance, I am an accounting major. I should be seeking and following advice from those that are successful in the field of accounting. It would do me no good to listen to advice from people that are in the field of medicine. Although they may have some good advice that I could use for people skills or management skills, it may not be what I need to follow to be successful in my field.

INSTANT MBA: 'Don't Take Advice From Golfers If You Want To Play Baseball'
This article is common sense. If you are an aspiring entrepreneur than you should seek advice from business owners and entrepreneurs. It wouldn't do any good to get advice from a nurse or a teacher, unless they own their own practice. Their past experiences are not relevant to a situation you would encounter. If you get feedback from a professional in the career you are pursing, you will become more knowledgeable on how to go about your goals. Questions I would ask an entrepreneur would be; How much was your start-up investment?, What are benefits and pitfalls of owning your own business?, What are some reoccurring conflicts that you have had to deal with and how did you handle these situations? These are questions that someone outside the entrepreneurial profession wouldn't be able to answer. This is why is important to recieve advice and feedback from a RELEVANT source!

I really liked this article because it made a lot of sense. Jeff Hoffman is correct in saying that in order to succeed that you should receive advice from people that are successful. If you receive advice from someone who is not successful you may not receive great advice. People with a proven track record are also great people to be your mentor because they can teach you the tricks of the trade. If you want to be a business owner one day than it is important that you find a mentor, preferably one that is currently a business owner or even a manager. They will keep you aware of things that you need to know like tricks of the trade.

Jeff Hoffman gives great advice in this article. When striving to create your own company or be successful in your career, you need to associate with and ask advice from people who are in similar roles. Asking advice from others, although it may seem like good advice, causes confusion in your business plan. In order to get the right advice you must be proactive and search for the right people who can give you the best advice for the business you are trying to build.

INSTANT MBA: 'Don't Take Advice From Golfers If You Want To Play Baseball'
This is a very informative article and makes alot of sense. Personally, i believe alot of business owners ask other business owners for information and tips but dont realize those owners are not in the same field as you are. Therefore, they might be giving the wrong information or not good information dealing with the certain field and instead they are just giving general business advice and not specific. I agree with the article that you should contact other business owners in your specific field and talk with them to gather more detailed information.

INSTANT MBA: Don't Take Advice From Golfers If You Want To Play Baseball
Not everyone sees things the same way. Someone who loves golf may not be able to understand how someone could not love golf. I know I am a firm believer in the sport of softball and I could not understand how someone doesn't like softball. What I have to realize is not everyone has spent their entire life practicing and playing softball like I have. Sometimes in life its okay to ask others what they think of the situation, but to get the real idea of what is taking place you need to talk to someone who has been there. There's no better way to truly understand something than to ask someone who has had a similar situation. They can connect with you in ways that others can't.

INSTANT MBA: 'Don't Take Advice From Golfers If You Want To Play Baseball'
I partly agree with this author because i do believe we should lisen to people advice but make our own decision. I don't take any advice the way it is, personally i try to weigh and make the decisions myself. I believe that there are golfer who may give give baseball good advice and those who will give baseball golfer advice and led to confusion. As an individual in business and in personal life we need to always judge the advice give and see if they make sense to the situation one may be and draw our own conclusions.
