INSTANT MBA: In A Fast-Paced World, Some Things Can Wait
When I began reading this article I thought it would be in reference to employees, not clients or customers. I really like that she suggests being proactive by making a “FAQ” for clients. This can certainly minimize the calls from the “needy.” This will make client’s life easier by having basic questions asked. However, I question her method of waiting “a day or two to give it a little break.” I do not consider that quality service and foresee annoyance building within the client. If time does not permit a call back to this client in a timely manner, even for the smallest or non-urgent request, I would suggest having a colleague call or send an email explain they will be contacted within a certain time frame. Prioritizing is a skill that must be honed and can cause difficulty if not handled well.

INSTANT MBA: “In a Fast-Paced World, Some Things Can Wait.”
I have to agree that we do live in a fast paced society today and the expectation for instant communication via phone or email is very demanding. Customers can take a toll on a businessman or woman due to the stress and expectations. Business owners need to understand and learn how to deal with these situations in order to complete their own day to day activities.

INSTANT MBA: In A Fast-Paced World, Some Things Can Wait
This article talks about just being patience sometimes and taking your time with things because somethings are fast paced and other needs can wait. Sometimes its okay to wait a day or two to respond back to an individual in the work force and sometimes its okay to have an answer already prepared on the spot. People understand when you are too busy and have alot of stuff to do even in the work force this is a necessity.

INSTANT MBA: In A Fast-Paced World, Some Things Can Wait
Ms. Haag is speaking to emerging entrepreneurs about the importance of time prioritizing. We live in a world of constant interaction with texting, emails, twitter, and facebook. Oftentimes, it seems customers can become accustomed to having you at their fingertips, and attempt to engage you in a pages-long back and forth email conversation. On the one hand I'm sure it's a great way to showcase your customer service skills. However, it is unreasonable for a business person to be "on-call" 24/7. It is important for customers to be in contact with you, to feel comfortable with your skills and expertise, but it is a good practice for you to create the Frequently-Asked-Questions every week to show initiative, but also leave time for a life outside of work obligations.

MORE of us need to realize that "In a Fast Paced World, Things Can Wait!" This is so true both at work and at home. Personally, there are times that I've had to literally turn my phone off to avoid the temptation of immediately responding to those who need (or feel they need) me at that precise moment. In management, you learn very quickly that not everything is an emergency (even though some employees and/or customers may think otherwise.) In teaching, I'm proactive in the fact that I've recently created my own teacher webpage where I post my class routines, rules, homework, schedule, etc. in an attempt to provide parents and students with the information they need. This, in turn, helps me to avoid having numerous phone calls/notes/emails about the same topic, freeing up some of my time to perform more important tasks----like teaching my students

INSTANT MBA: In A Fast-Paced World, Some Things Can Wait
As a former supervisor, I found that my employees sometimes expected me to do everything because I would if they couldn't understand. Sometimes holding off on a response, can generate initiative for your employees and they just might praise you for it in the long run!!!

INSTANT MBA: In A Fast-Paced World, Some Things Can Wait
Talk about the "Fast-Paced World" the email,(work, personal), Facebook, LinkedIn, work, and of course other personal things. The article is very clear, since we have so much to do, we should create a priority for work and other things. Most things may be important to you, but you may not have time do everything and that is why some things may wait, but i think you need to be careful on what need to wait so that you don't run over due dates on important stuff.I also think that leaving some things to wait will help you to get enough time so that you can have something of value.

This was an amazing article. I believe that Running a business can sometimes be overwhelming, but technology does play a major role in business in today’s society. Many of today’s customers expect instant feedback and communication. We live in a world were everything is fast, like feedback, communication, connections, internet, etc. Technology can make running a business either really easy or really hard.

INSTANT MBA: In A Fast-Paced World, Some Things Can Wait When you are in a business environment or when you own your own business, things can sometimes be very hectic. I agree with the author of the article, you have to know what needs to be done right now and what can be put off until later. Especially when dealing with bills, accounts due, leases, etc. You also need to be able to handle stress well and have time to respond to the things that are going on in your environment. I believe the saying some things can wait is like the first in last out principle or the last in first out principle in accounting. You have to know what things came in first, but can be paid last and what bills came in last but are due now.

INSTANT MBA: In A Fast-Paced World, Some Things Can Wait: I agree in this fast paces world we live in pretty much everything we do is urgent. every question we have we need asking at that moment, so of course if you are someone that people come to for advice it is very overwhelming and cause stress on that business owner. Slowing people down can help them in a lot of way can get them to trying to think of another solution or making just sit there and go with the answer you come up a first.

Instant MBA: In A Fast-Paced World, Some Things Can Wait
This article hits home with me. Being an auditor at a big CPA firm, I completely understand how overwhelming communication can be. Clients are constantly emailing and calling to have the answers right then and there. Working on numerous clients per week, it is impossible to get back to everyone at that very second. It is important to organize what needs to be answered immediately and what can wait a day or two. Every morning when I get to my desk, I make a task schedule of what needs to be done today and what can wait till tomorrow. That includes which clients I need to give an answer to immediately and which ones can wait for an email later in the week. It is extremely important to have everything organized because it's easy to forget what needs to be done. Although individuals are looking for answers right away, they understand everyone is busy.

"In a fast-paced world, some things can wait"
This actually puts a graph I was shown in audit class into a better perspective. As the X axis of the graph increases, timeliness increases. As the Y axis increases, urgency increases. While the things you need to accomplish in Q1 are very important, it is also equally important to take a break once these things become accomplished. Otherwise you will work yourself into an early grave. Setting up an FAQ can be very beneficial. If you have a company website, you can direct customers/clients there in order to help take some of the pressure of yourself and your staff members.

My interpretation of this article means that one should prioritize and realize what’s more important. Sure you may care about the well being of your business and the needs of the customer but, what about your needs. Where does health, relaxation, and family or friend time come in. Being a business professional is hard work and customers do appreciate a little initiative, but at who’s expense. In past experience, I come to terms of considering myself first sometimes. I was so use to doing for everyone else that I forgot about me and what I needed. Looking back some things were important and others not so important that could of waited. In my career I hope to find balance and allow my business to prosper as well.

I agree with this article. Running a business is overwhelming. And by technology basically taking over, people expect you to get back to them faster. But, every question doesn’t need to be answered right away. Something simple as “what is our dinner plans for next month’s gathering” can wait. Choose what need to be answered now, and what can wait.
